Year 12 TOPEC Camp
In Week 9, our Year 12 Physical Education class completed two achievement standards at TSB TOPEC. Students learned about Risk Management and Implementation for Caving, and performed a set of skills to national level in River Bugging.
All students passed the course and performed exceptionally well. Mrs Ralph would like to thank them for their excellent attitude, behaviour and work ethic throughout the week.
Sport News – Term One, Week Four
This year’s sporting calendar looks like being another big one for the school with many TSSSA, Primary, Intermediate and National events planned along with a host of school events. First up are the annual Senior and Junior Athletics. This was held last week with large numbers of students taking part. Results from the events in the next Newsletter.
Next week, we have the Swimming sports with the Seniors on Wednesday, February 29 and the Juniors on Friday, March 2. These will held at the Okato Pool. This year ALL the juniors will swim on the same day and Years 3–6 will be swimming In Age Groups not Year Groups. Notices about the swimming sports should be home by now.
We have three teams entered in cricket competitions this term – Incrediball, Junior Hardball and the 1st XI. Also entered into a competition are the Primary & Secondary Inline Hockey teams. My thanks to those parents who have taken on the role of coaching the teams.
The Sports Academy for 2012 has begun with a squad of swimmers receiving coaching from Fiona Lacey three mornings each week. A group of four girls will shortly start receiving equestrian coaching and will make up our Equestrian team. Individual invitations to join the Sports Academy will occur over the next 2-3 weeks.

Thanks to those coaches who have returned their magazine reports to school. If you have not done so yet, please return them as soon as possible. Also, if you have any good photos of Coastal students at school events that are suitable for publication in our magazine, please either email them to me, or leave a hard copy at the school office (these will be returned).
Thanks, Marian Richardson.

How I love seeing our students so successful. It really is a time to enjoy the success of our students in a variety of sporting events over the past few weeks.
Cross Country for our Juniors has dominated the sports scene recently with the Coastal Cross Country and the Taranaki Primary School Cross Country Champs. I gave the results for the Year 4-6 Coastal Cross Country in the last Newsletter, and here are the highlights from the Year 7 and 8 Coastal Cross Country. Thomas Morgan was an easy winner in the 11 years Boys race, Mitchell Fleming was 4th in the 12 years Boys race, Anne-Maree Harris 3rd in the Year 13 Girls and Jess Gibson 4th.
Following this event a team of 28 athletes represented Coastal at the Taranaki Primary School Cross Country Champs in Hawera last week. All our runners performed very well with the standouts being Thomas Morgan 10th in the 11 Years Boys, Jacob Whittle 13th in the 9 and under boys, Jordan Grylls 16th in the 9 & Under Girls and Mitchell Fleming 17th in the 12 Years Boys.
