Junior News – Term One, Week 7

Junior News – Term One, Week 7

Thanks to all the parents who have selected their interview times online, and also for the prompt return of all your interview no4ces. We look forward to meeting with you all next Tuesday to share your child’s results and next steps in learning.

Some questions you might like to ask:
- What can they do well?
- What do they need help with?
- What do I need to know about my child to help them in
the classroom?
- What can I do at home?
- How will the school support them?
- What is the best way to keep in contact about how my
child is doing?

Junior News – Term One, Week Four

Junior News – Term One, Week Four

Welcome back for the 2012 school year. Our classrooms are buzzing along with a hive of activity already. We have been settng up our classroom room treaties and getting back into the routine of learning. We have already had a very busy two weeks, with Swimming and Harold from the Life Education Trust has been visiting us. All classes from Year 0-8 have two visits to the Life Education bus and have been learning about keeping themselves happy and healthy. This complements our focus for the term which is Sustaining Ourselves.

Our Coastal Values programme is in place again this year. We hope to have a student team up and running in the next few weeks to help organise Fun Fridays. Our value focus at the moment is ‘Being organised for the Day’. Please chat with your children about our values.

SUN HATS
It is compulsory for our Year 0-‐6 students to wear sun hats at school when involved in any outside activity. This includes our outside classes such as PE, and also all break times. Students can wear a bucket hat or a cap to protect their face, ears and neck from being burnt. A bucket hat gives the best protection. We all know how fierce our sun is.

SWIMMING
All Junior classes have swimming this term. We are very lucky to have Fiona Lacey coach our students in swimming. Please support your child to be organised with their togs and towel on their swimming days. If your child is not swimming please send a note to the class teacher.

LOST PROPERTY
Please please ensure your child’s uniform items are named. If items are not named we often cannot return them directly to their owners. Missing or lost items are easily returned when they are named.

BUDDY CLASSES
At Coastal we have buddy classes. Buddy classes are where an older class group buddies with a younger class group for a variety of activities to support learning and encourage a tuakana/teina relationship. It provides role models for our younger students and aligns closely with our values.

Tickets are on sale now, and can be purchased from the School Office – Adults $5, Children $2, Family $15.

It is great to see students arriving with necessary costumes. If you are having trouble sourcing anything please touch base with your child’s teacher this week. In order to keep costs realistic, we have sourced props and costumes at the Hospice and Savemart.

Coastal Values Programme
Our Coastal Value for the last few weeks has been ‘solving problems the right way’. Please talk to your children about what this means, and how they can display this value at school and at home.

All students have been working hard with this and reaching the required number of coupons for Fun Friday. Just a reminder, our Fun Fridays are held every second week. This Fun Friday is a trip to the Aquatic Centre in New Plymouth. Thank you to the parents who have offered to take transport without your support the trip wouldn’t be possible. If you are taking transport, please be at school at by 10.30am.
