School Production – ‘The Good Old Days’

Production preparation is well underway. All students are working hard to ensure this is a whole school production. Seniors are involved in choreography of dances, prop making, stage directing and technical aspects, alongside junior students dancing and acting.

Tickets are on sale now, and can be purchased from the School Office – Adults $5, Children $2, Family $15.

It is great to see students arriving with necessary costumes. If you are having trouble sourcing anything please touch base with your child’s teacher this week. In order to keep costs realistic, we have sourced props and costumes at the Hospice and Savemart.

Talent Show

The Coastal Taranaki School Council is holding a whole school talent show on Friday, November 4 at 1pm to raise money for the Senior Ball and Graduation Dinner. We have a variety of performances from groups of students and teachers. We would love you to support them as they perform their talents.

Tickets will be available at the door for $2, and food will be also be available. All profits will contribute to the Senior Ball and Graduation.

Junior News – Term 3, Week 9

Coastal Values Programme
Our Coastal Value for the last few weeks has been ‘solving problems the right way’. Please talk to your children about what this means, and how they can display this value at school and at home.

All students have been working hard with this and reaching the required number of coupons for Fun Friday. Just a reminder, our Fun Fridays are held every second week. This Fun Friday is a trip to the Aquatic Centre in New Plymouth. Thank you to the parents who have offered to take transport without your support the trip wouldn’t be possible. If you are taking transport, please be at school at by 10.30am.

Rippa’ Rugby World Cup 2011

Coastal embraced the World Cup Fever with a whole school Rippa Rugby tournament on Wednesday, September 14. Despite the chilly weather, our students each adopted a World Cup team, and the school fields came alive with colour and sound.

New Zealand emerged winners in the Years 0-2 tournament, with Canada taking out the Year 3-6 category. Tonga emerged victorious for Years 7-13. A fun afternoon was had by everyone.

Launch of School-Wide Values Programme

Last Friday the teachers of Y7 – 13 students donned school uniform and performed some skits illustrating and reminding us of our school’s values. After a good deal of consultation a couple of years ago, it was decided that a C.O.A.S.T.A.L. acronym (standing for Co-operation, Openness, Aroha, Sustainable living, Tolerance, Accountability and Leading our Learning) gave a meaningful value base to fulfilling the school’s vision.

There has been a groundswell of discussion for many years now about the need to affirm the values that were perhaps once ‘taken for granted’ and commonly agreed upon as the foundation of a person’s character and necessary for good citizenship.

As a common thread in all young people’s lives, in 2007 the Ministry of Education made it a social imperative for schools to “encourage, model and explore” the commonly held values or deeply held beliefs that un- derpin ‘the way we do things around here’. More re- cently it has encouraged the adoption of programmes aimed at developing ‘Positive Behaviour for Learning (PB4L)’.

Last year Years 1 – 6 introduced our Coastal Values programme. Now we will be able to have a school wide, consistent approach which is run by students, for students, and will help equip our students for life.
