Principal’s Report – Term 3, Week 9

Kia ora parents, caregivers and students of Coastal Taranaki School,
We warmly welcome the following students who have recently started at Coastal:
- Paige Wilson, Year 2
- Samuel Marshall, New Entrant
Production
From the glimpses I have had lately, you are all in for a real treat. The show has been written by our students and involves many. Make sure you get in quick before it is too late. A tremendous amount of positive and creative energy has been invested by staff, and it has been a wonderful vehicle for interaction as a school. Credit will be given where it is due in the next newsletter. For now we particularly thank Mrs Brigitte Luke and her team of writers.
The Final Challenge Approaches
Year 11-13 students have three school weeks before NZQA external examinations are due to commence. It is vital that parents, students and school work towards a successful outcome for a solid academic year. It is never too late!
Teachers are always generous in making time available. Make sure the discussions held following the School Exams last week are put into practice. This will inevitably require some sacrifices during the upcoming school holidays. We are very keen for the school’s success in 2010 to be repeated by the classes of 2011. In 2010, we were ranked in the top three Taranaki secondary schools for each of NCEA levels 1–3.
Senior School Course Information Evening
Teachers have been discussing courses with students, and you will have been talking at home now that you have the Course Booklet for 2012. I have been absolutely admiring of the seriousness and good sense shown by all Year 10–12 students I have spoken with this past week.
Please make every effort to support your children in working towards their goals for school and beyond by coming to this important meeting next Monday.
Uniform Subcommittee
Thanks to Sandi Beardmore, Wendy and Jacky for looking into options for parents. We are mindful of costs but also of the issues of quality and uniformity. Jacky has also met with a representative from Postie Plus. We currently have samples from SchoolTex for inspection at the office.
The subcommittee has recommended that we continue with the aspects of the uniform that are ‘unique’ to Coastal Taranaki (eg. The sweatshirt, the polo shirt). Early next term parents will be asked for their thoughts on the supply of the non-unique items (the shorts, pants, white shirts, socks, etc.).
From the Board of Trustees’ perspective, this will ensure our existing contractual agreements can be met, and existing stock remain relevant. The Board is prepared to continue to act as a warehouse for the unique items of uniform, but will no longer act as a bank – uniform will need to be paid in full.
Our students are excellent in their presentation. Thank you for helping us to maintain our high standards. And thank you to the subcommittee for their work so far.
Thank You Okato Lions Club
The Okato Lions Club has been very generous in its support of our students recently:
- $500 was provided to ensure that the Production could obtain a number of props and equipment.
- Sponsorship was granted so that two students were able to attend TOPEC at the Meeting of the Waters this week.
We are most grateful for your support. They have been most worthwhile contributions.
Kind regards,
Allan Miles
