Sports News – Term 2, Week 5

Great News…after an absence of 3 years the TSSSA Indoor Bowls championship title returned to CTS following the event last week. The team of seven, Hamish Kape (singles) Brook Gray and Barney Doyle (pairs) and Stanton Brown, Ben Brophy, Daniel Doyle and Joseph Doyle (fours) won 10 of the 12 games played to easily win the title. The Fours were the overall winners of that section while the pairs were 2nd and Hamish Kape in the single won 3 of his 4 games.
Two of the bowlers, Hamish Kape and Brook Gray will now go on to represent the school at the North Island Champs (Tauranga) in July and the National Champs (Wellington) in August.
Well winter sport is now well underway and despite some early hiccups with the weather all teams have played at least two games.
Last Saturday the Coastal Schools 1st & 2nd XV rugby teams played their home games at our school. This is the first time this has happened for a number of seasons. Given that we have several boys playing in both teams it was a good opportunity for the locals to come along and watch good school rugby. And for the record the 2nd XV won while the 1st XV lost by two points.
Recently our Year 5 & 6 netball and rugby teams played Mangorei School in the first round of the NPPA Trophy. Unfortunately both teams lost with the rugby losing by just 2 points and the netball going down 3-18. The next round of games is on Thursday June 9th at our school against Central School.
The Senior School Cross Country was also held recently with good numbers of students taking part. The winners were Cecilia Rickit and Finnley Binsbergen (Year 9), Ella Beaumont and River Stone (Year 10), Ariarna Hickey and Daniel Downes (Year 11), Crystal Baker and Logan Jones (Year 12) and Ethan Adams (Year 13).
Upcoming Events:
- Year 6 Rippa Rugby Tournament at Opunake – Thursday, June 2
- TSSSA Golf at Stratford – Friday, June 10
And finally, Sports Fees for winter sports are now past due for payment. To those who have paid a big thank you and to all others if we could have them as soon as possible, it would be much appreciated.
