School Council Annual Report, 2010

School Council Annual Report, 2010

This has been an interesting and exciting year for our School Council. We have achieved a fulfilling amount throughout the duration of the year, including sponsorship of people in the community and charities, encouraging student feedback in school, and providing a voice for student opinion; supporting students to make changes happen.

We were approached in the later half of the second therm about an oppourtunity to run our School Canteen. This daunted a few of us, but thanks to the amazing effort and co-ordination of Tegan and all the willing students who volunteered their time to tend the canteen during lunchtimes, we managed to raise over $600 over the duration of three weeks. Throughout this time, we introduced some new foods which were very popular and have continued to sell throughout the year. We showed our appreciation of the volunteers with a share lunch for all involved.

At the beginning of the year, William, our Treasurer, recommended the introduction of budgeting and priority guidelines. This consisted of budgeting in advance how much we would spend on causes outside of our school community, as last year the School Council spent a greater percentage of income donating to charities outside of our community. We decided that we exist primarily to support the growth and development of our students.

Thanks to Mr Ben Naughton, who has always been there for us when we have needed it – for limitless advice, tips and our fortnightly mentoring on a holistic range of topics. Thanks also to our principal, Mr Allan Miles who, very promptly, helped make action plans in our follow up sessions after each meeting.
